BMW R1100GS
BMW's tactic for the R259 engine was to release it first in the R1100RS, then regularly introduce other models. Second on the list was the R1100GS. Although this latest rendition of the GS was over 200lb's heavier than the original R80GS of 1980, it's function remained much the same. A big motorcycle, capable of running down the highway or round the World. Off road capabilities were somewhat limited, but it fit's into the same category as SUV's. Capable of some off road work, but unlikely to really need to do it. Compared with the RS engine, the GS was down by 10 horses, thanks to different camshafts, altered valve timing, lower compression, and a re-mapped engine management system. Although power was down, torque was up. Anti-lock braking was offered... a first for a dual purpose machine.

Power in 1994 was 73.4@6500rpm, with torque of 66.1@5500. Wet weight was 569lb's.
