HONDA CBR1000F, 1990-1997
|
|
The CBR1000F was actually introduced in Europe in 1989, but America didn't get it until 1990, thanks to leftover '88 Hurricanes. The new bike was an extension and improvement upon the concept so ably represented by the CBR1000 Hurricane. Virtually every component was improved on the new machine. There was the new bodywork, a 4 into 2 exhaust system, 'bumpers' to protect the bike in case of a tipover, updated frame (still steel), upgraded wheels and tires on wider rims, and a cartridge front fork. The engine was left pretty much alone, with only the exhaust redesign altering the power characteristics. The engine had a very wide power band, and was able to pull from as litttle as 2000rpm. It could also rev out to its redline of 10,500rpm. The CBR1000F was dropped for 1992, then returned in 1993 with the Honda 'Linked Braking System', whereby the brake pedal operates both the front and rear brakes. Other changes for 1993 included new carbs, new bodywork, and better mass centralization for improved handling. By 1994 horsepower was 105 (at the rear wheel). Wet weight was 606lb's.
