HONDA CBR1000 Hurricane, 1987-90
|
|
It seemed like Honda were veering away from the straight-four cylinder format, following the successes of the VF series, until the introduction of the Hurricanes. The CBR1000 Hurricane was to be Honda's flagship Super-Sports machine. With a fully enclosed chassis hiding a completely new liquid cooled DOHC, 16 valve engine, the Hurricane was quite a machine. The bodywork was designed to be as slippery as possible, but comfort was also a top priority. This was not an out and out sport bike... it was designed to be a comfortable sport-tourer. The frame was made of steel, rather than more expensive aluminum, to keep the list price respectable. Power in 1986 peaked out at 112.75@10,000rpm, with torque at 65.76@8000rpm. Wet weight was 582 lb's.
