HONDA PACIFIC COAST, PC800
The PC800 was a ground breaker for Honda. It was a design exercise that attempted to make a motorcycle slightly more 'automotive' in nature. With all enclosed bodywork, and integrated cargo space, the PC was certainly a practical day to day machine, and an able sport tourer. It certainly took the motorcycle buying public a while to come to terms with the styling. In the early days it was, for the most part, regarded as ugly. In later years the styling became more acceptable to the masses. The engine was a reworked version of the Honda Shadow 800 V-Twin. It was tuned for more power, rubber mounted, and given a 5 speed gearbox. Handling was surprisingly good, and engine power was more than adequate for most applications. Passenger accomodations were rather uncomfortable, but most other functions of the machine worked well. The PC was sold in '89 & '90, then reintroduced (unchanged) in 1994, for $1200 less than the original! Power was 47.6bhp@6500rpm, with torque of 42.2@5500rpm. Wet weight was 631lb's.
