HONDA ST1100, 90-92
|
|
Honda released the ST1100 in the Spring of 1990, as an early release 1991 model. It was a total surprise to the press, and received a huge ammount of publicity as a result. The engine was a longitudinal V-Four, with Dual over-head, belt driven cams. The shim under bucket actuation is low maintenance, with 22,000 mile intervals. Shaft drive further eases maintenance duties. The design seems to have an 'automotive' influence, with its car-like valve covers and toothed rubber timing belt. The engine is clearly intended to run and run. Front forks were non adjustable, with an adjustable rear shock. The engine is not hugely powerful, but is very user friendly. The 7.4 gallon tank allows 300 miles between fills, and the riding position is almost comfortable enough to make full use of it. In 1992, Honda introduced the ABS/TCS version. This was Honda's first true 'sport-tourer'. Power in 1990 was 89.4bhp@7500rpm, with torque of 71.8@5500rpm. wet weight was 701lb's.
