KAWASAKI CONCOURS, 1991+
Kawasaki's intention with the Concours was to leave it in the lineup for a very long period of time, with only minimal changes. This was to allow the aftermarket manufacturers plenty of opportunity to produce add-on modifications, and for the machine to build up some loyalty. Both of these goals have been achieved, with both an active aftermarket, and with the formation of the Concours Owners Group (COG). The Concours engine was based on the Ninja 1000, and the frame was modified from the Ninja 900 unit. The engine was retuned for maximum grunt, rather than outright horsepower. Final drive was by shaft, for low maintenance. Many honors were bestowed on the Concours, especially in the early years. In 1994 the Concours was given a makeover, which included new wheels and brakes. Power was 88.4bhp@9500rpm, with torque of 63.3ft/lbs@6500rpm. wet weight was 618lb's.
