YAMAHA Road Star & Silverado, 1999+
|
Harley had just increased their engine size to 1450cc with their Twin-Cam 88, Suzuki had introduced their 1500cc Intruder, and Honda the big 1500cc Valkyrie. Yamaha upped the ante still further with the 1600cc V-Twin Road Star. Being so large, Yamaha had no option but to tune the motor for maximum torque. The pushrod engine was clearly a throwback, but Yamaha engineered it to modern standards. As well as having the torque-monster motor, the Road Star could also handle a few turns here and there. The Silverado was a dressed up version.
Power in 1999 was 52.1bhp, with torque of 83.1ft/lb's. wet weight was 740lb's.
