YAMAHA YZF600, 1997+
Europe got the YZF600 'Thunder Cat' a year before it arrived on American shores, and it proved to be hugely popular. Outright race-track performance is not the most vital selling point in Europe, so the YZF got a fair crack of the whip. In all the US magazine comparisons, the YZF finished towards the bottom of the heap, but nonetheless was voted top 600 by several magazines, thanks to it's real world versatility and ergo-friendly riding position. The plush suspension, super smooth engine and unprecedented 'sport class' comfort, as well as it's good looks, made for a wonderful ride for all those who bought one. Even when the R6 was introduced, Yamaha kept the YZF in the lineup, as a 'real world' alternative.

Power in 1997 was 85.6bhp, with torque of 44.3ft/lb's. Wet weight was 486lb's.
